After a second snow day and kids back to school today, life is finally getting back on track. Of course, tomorrow starts the weekend. So, it will be a couple of days before I will have a fresh “normal” week.
Last night, I made a yummy Kielbasa dish. Comment if you would like me to post the recipe!
As promised…Goal 3: Be More Organized. My plan for this one is to tackle a small area in my house each day. For example, it could be a drawer, a bookshelf, a cabinet shelf, a pile of shoes, whatever….just one small step towards organizing my home and living in a less chaotic space!
Snow Day! It’s really hard to be productive when the alarm can get turned off, and the kids are home from school…like today! I get distracted easily as it is. So, it is important for me to focus on staying on track in order to make some kind of progress throughout the day with my normal life chores. I’m a list maker which helps. I also like somewhat of a routine. However, my main goal is to do some kind of DIY or home improvement project AT LEAST once or twice a month. My first plan for this is painting all of the doors in my house (minus the kids’ bedrooms) black. I think black doors add a sort of elegance to a house. It is a quick way to change up your space. It is also great for mothers with children or pets for that matter because it doesn’t show dirt as easily! I would love your input on my house update plan. I hope to get started with this soon! One good thing about snow days is that I usually get some good reading in and time with friends if nothing else gets done!
I am not doing so well with staying consistent and working on my goals! The struggle is real! My first big goal for this year is weight loss and good health. I seem to have gained some weight this year which has piled on top of the weight I was already working to lose. My problem is this-I LOVE food! I love growing food, I love cooking food, I love dairy and pasta AND FLOUR! I love it all. I have tried diets and never stick with them. I am miserable when trying to change what I LOVE. I decided that there has to be a way that I can get healthier and not sacrifice the majority of things that I love to eat. I eat healthy for the most part. I’m not a fast food kind of person. My problem is portion control. I’ve decided that if I control my portions and eat what I love in moderation that maybe this will be a good start to my weight loss journey. I also know that if I am eating I have to stay active and burn off some of those lovely things that I am just not willing to give up. This is also where my weight gain comes into play. I was running three miles almost every day. I first suffered from plantar fasciitis. Then, I developed pain on the top of my foot that made walking difficult. Needless to say, I stopped all of it (running and walking for exercise). Now, I’m paying for it with weight gain.
I decided to do a little research on healthy weight loss and found that apple cider vinegar has tons of benefits…one of which is weight loss! I put together a little “plan” to get on track and hope to first develop a routine and then progress from there. Here is my plan:
- WALK at least 30 minutes a day. Vary intensity, increase distance.
- Three times a week I will use Mudderella Workouts http://mudderella.com/workouts/workout-1-the-basics/ for focus on strength and full body. https://toughmudder.com/physical-training
- Use apple cider vinegar mixed with cinnamon and cayenne as a warm drink in the morning to start my day and end my day before bed. This is proven to promote overall health, energy, and burning of fat!

Do you have goals for the New Year? Resolutions?
I want to start today’s post with a quote from the one whom we celebrate today, Martin Luther King:

Seeing as I started this blog mid-January instead of the beginning of January will tell you that I’m not one who obsesses over New Year resolutions. I like to start the year with goals. Goals are what you set forth to achieve in a set time you expect to achieve them. Goals can be short term or long term. The cool thing about goals are that you are always working to achieve them and every step that you make towards them is considered progress. Whereas, resolutions are long term and something that you “keep” not something that you “complete”. They are also usually vague and sometimes really an unrealistic “goal” rather than a “resolution”. This is often why they are so hard to “keep”. So, I do not ever make New Year resolutions, but I do set goals of things that I would like to do better.
My goals for this New Year look something like this:
- Lose weight and be healthy-(Everyone has this goal it seems)
- Be more productive
- Be more organized
- Continue my journey with life, love, and happiness
Understand that these are all things that I want to accomplish throughout the year. I do not expect overnight success, but hope to see a move in the right direction throughout the year. Most goals require sacrifice and struggle, but in my mind it is all about taking “baby steps”. In the next few days I will explain my specific goals and how I plan to accomplish them. Remember, this blog is about conversation…I hope you will take a few minutes to inspire me with your goals and/or resolutions (whatever you have chose to make) and share your ideas of accomplishing them!
I started my first blog in 2009. I started it as a way to keep in touch with family and friends without using Facebook. At the time, I was teaching and didn’t have a Facebook account. My husband is military and still doesn’t have a Facebook account. I found it to be an easy way to communicate and stay private (by adjusting my settings and limiting my audience). However, I have now come to terms with the fact that maybe I do have experiences to share that may be of use to someone out there besides just my friends and family. So, this is my “ice breaker” and my hope that I can help make someone’s life easier by some of the crazy things I do (DIY and farm to table), life experiences I have had, and knowledge I have gained along the way. The title of my blog explains what I want this blog to be. I want this blog to be a tool for communication and conversation.
